Super Healthy Breakfast

July 5, 2009

Or…how I spent too much money eating out over the weekend and have to eat at home this week.

I feel like it is a message from a higher being that I had a forgotten quarterly bill drawn out of my account.  So I’m not eating out this week – no matter how bored I get.

The exception being Friday night when I have dinner plans…but at least one time a week is better than once (or twice) a day.  Right?

So my breakfast was my own, lighter version of an egg mcmuffin.   I used egg beaters, morningstar farms sausage links, one slice of american cheese and, my new favorite grocery store find:  Oroweat Sandwich Thins. (Multi-grain variety TYVM).

Here is what the bag looks like:

Oroweat_SW_ThinsThey are thinner than a roll and more satisfying (to me) than bread.

I’ve used them for toast, peanut butter sandwiches, and veggie burgers.  They are only 100 calories and have decent amounts of fiber.  For you diabetics out there – 19gm of carbs.

Yum!

So anyway.  I should see good progress on my next weigh in if I am only eating from my fridge.  The worst thing I have to snack on are sugar-free popsicles.

I’ll keep you posted.

(I don’t work for Oroweat, just love this product)

One Month In.

June 15, 2009

And I’m up 1.8lbs.

The last few weeks have been nothing short of hell.  I’ve been working and having to deal with all of the end of quarter projects and papers.  I’ve been totally stressed and pretty much fallen off the wagon.

So the fact that I’ve only gained .3lbs in the last two weeks is astonishing.  I’ve been eating out almost every meal and gave myself a reprieve from exercising.

Today I begin anew.

I am only eating out on Sundays – I usually go out to breakfast and a movie with my mom Sunday mornings and don’t want to miss that.  However, that event does not mean I get to fall off the wagon.  It just means that I’ll be eating out.

I am going to exercise every day.  Already missed my shot at the gym this morning so I’ll be doing a DVD at home tonight.

Some things that I’m proud of from the last two weeks:

1.  I went to my sister-in-laws birthday AND a baby shower.  I skipped dessert both times.

2.  I went down a dress size and actually found a dress for my reunion that I don’t hate and fit me well!

3.  I found the best place to buy Altoids – they even have GINGER Altoids.  I’m in heaven!

So that’s my deal.  Today is my first day of completely eating at home and eating healthier.

I’m starving.

My New Challenge

May 15, 2009

It occurred to me the other day that today, May 15th, gave me exactly 6 months until my 38th birthday.

Losing 38lbs would put me in my desired weight range.  Not the weight I think I want to be, but definitely a weight where I would be comfortable deciding whether to try for more or stay there.  It would also be the lowest weight for me since I graduated from college in 1993.

I’m not going to join any diet group – just plain old healthier eating and exercise.  I have a gym membership, so exercising will be a combination of walking outside, going to the gym and work out dvds.  I’m just aiming for 1/2 hour a day/7 days a week and then increase to an hour a day after a while.

I also did a look-see at my bank statement and apparently I could feed a third world nation with the amount of money I spend eating out.  So I’m cutting way back on that as well – probably just to special occasions and before school if my schedule doesn’t allow for me to bring dinner.

I’ll be posting my weights on the “Weigh In” page on the 1st and 15th of every month and you can see that I’m starting at 165lbs.

Props to me – as just two years ago I clocked in at 198lbs.  When this challenge is over – I will have lost 71lbs.

I hope to post in every night with my exercise for the day and how I did eating-wise.

Wish me luck!

Tomorrow I begin again…

I have charted a new goal for myself with the challenge starting tomorrow….

Will explain everything then.

Down .4 this week

January 18, 2009

Granted, I haven’t been working very hard at it the last week.

For some reason I was craving milkshakes.  Milkshakes?  I don’t even really like them.  So I gave into the craving.

Shakes, come to find out, are like 700 calories apiece.  So I consumed at least 3500 calories in milk shake alone this past week.

WTF?

Apparently I’m having some issues related to ice cream so I went to the store and bought some sugar-free butter pecan.  It’s about 120 calories for a quarter cup and I’m finding that that is pretty much all I need to be happy.  It’s a decent way for me to satisfy that craving and not jack up my blood sugars (15g carb as opposed to 100g carb).

One big thing that I accomplished last week was packing a sandwich and apple for dinner on the two nights I have school instead of eating something from the food court. I actually made it through class without falling asleep from the carb overload – imagine that!  Plus I found that the sandwich before class and the apple during break filled me up enough so that I didn’t “need” to stop by a fast food joint on the way home from class (10pm).

I’m making small breakthroughs.  I see my trainer again tomorrow.  I only have one more session left after that and unfortunately can’t afford to continue seeing her. :(    But at least I have a clue as to what to do in the gym now that will get me results.  I’m also hoping to start up with my Pilates DVDs this week.

We shall see.  I have exactly 13 days to lose the remaining 4.6 lbs that I was hoping to lose by the end of January.   I think I can do it…
